Letter 8

Hi folks, this week I want to share something about RV’ing and the people you meet. It’s about taking our shields off and It was one of the reasons why I decided to build the Kimbo camper. And then I want to share something small but encouraging to help you through this week.

If you’ve ever been boating on a lake you’ll see that 9 times out of 10 people will wave at each other. They almost never know the person that they’re waving at, but it’s become a norm to wave.

If you’ve ever ridden a motorcycle (or watched a motorcyclist) you’ll see that 9 times out of 10 they give this sign under the left handlebar to passing motorcyclists, a wave. They almost never know the person but it’s become a norm to wave.

It seems like there’s pockets of communities in life that we get the opportunity to see for the first time where there’s a norm of openness or kindness that we weren’t expecting. I remember seeing this for the first time in RV parks. People don’t go RVing to be stressed out, they go to gain the opportunity to shed it. The kinds of people you meet are most often the ones who want the opportunity to leave rigidity behind them and open their heart to restoring and recharging.

And that’s what I want to share today; if you haven’t had the chance to walk around an RV park and meet some neighbors, you’re missing out on something pretty awesome. Because the people that you meet, 9 times out of 10, are open to saying hi and open to asking questing and open to an invitation or extending an invitation to a campfire with friends. And those are some of the outliers of moments that stand out when you look back on the Rolodex of life’s memories.

You often never meet them again and often never talk again, but there’s a sentiment that you’re left with that’s counter to everything you watch on the news.

There’s amazing people out there who care. There are people out there who’s life stories will stick with you for the rest of yours. There are people out there who’s perspective will influence the refinement of yours, who’s wisdom will share something you’ve never seen. and they look just like you and me, but they put themselves into the position of meeting others with an open heart and a stress that was left behind 2000 miles ago.

And there’s nothing to lose by saying hi and asking how they’ve been, and there’s nothing to lose for them to do the same. When you go RV’ing you get the opportunity to meet some amazing people. And today I want to share how much of a catalyst that was to building the first Kimbo. It was a pursuit to have the experience more, but it was the pursuit to give the experience to others.

I don’t know who this message will reach but I just want to encourage you to find a way to meet those people too. It could even be just tent camping at a state park.

The news wants to hypnotize us into thinking that there’s more and more to become afraid of. I’m here to say that outside of the protection of your home, and in the presence of people who have left the protection of theirs, you might just find some friends that you’ll remember for the rest of your life.

This week I just want to say something that I hope builds you up for the week ahead. Here it is: Everything’s going to be OK. What you’re up against you’ll persevere. Keep being grateful for the little things, and keep challenging yourself to become just a little better than yesterday. You’re going to make it through. You’re always going to be up against the refinement of your character, its the price of admission to life. But at a moment in time, maybe now maybe later, the value is greater than the price. Today you’ve been given the opportunity to persevere into the best version of you, and you’re doing great.

Have a great week everybody,

-M
