You’re inside and it’s noon time, the door is wide open and you’re typing away on your computer. It’s that right type of warm out where you’re not too cold or bothered by letting the outdoors in. You finish your task and walk outside to sit next to a smoldering campfire with a folding camp chair. There are pine trees all around your campsite and the sun is coming through in beams and blotches on the dirt. The air is different here than it is downtown.
Being out in nature is one of the best things you could sign up for. Being out with a portable home like Kimbo is even better. Today I want to talk about the whole reason why people would want to get something like a Kimbo.
Advertising shows the grand moments and the grand experiences you could have, and it’s true. Setting up in a mountain overlook feels like matching a dream you’ve always wished to experience. But it’s finding the smaller moments, the hundreds of them, that make owning something like this worth it.
It might be the grand moments that we think we’re signing up for—and a lot of truck-related prep work that’s powered by the vision of the scenery ahead. But it ends up that relaxing and recharging in the outdoors is more like falling asleep, you don’t realize that it’s happening while you’re in it; you realize that it happened when you had it.
There’s snow outside. It wasn’t there yesterday but it’s coming down now. It’s 8 AM and there’s gold shining on the surface of the white blanket, coming from the unclouded sunrise in the distance. The road plow won’t come through for another hour. You’ve got another hour of being stuck here, but you’re not stuck here. You make a coffee as slow as you ever have but it’s a rewarding first sip. It’s warm inside, the fire keeps a nice 72, and it’s quiet stillness and a view for now. You’re sitting in the corner space with a couple pillows and a blanket over your lap. This morning coffee in a hot mug is like a battery charger connected to your soul. The absence of noise that was once hard to get used to—today it’s more like the tool you never knew you needed to access peace.
People say that they love their Kimbo and the first reason that comes to mind is because of what it is. I’ve come to realize that it’s because of what it isn’t that makes it great. It doesn’t need your attention on repairs or complex systems. It’s just there to be simple so you can have a moment in the outdoors for doing nothing at all, so that all the while you get to see that nothing-at-all is what you needed all along.
I hope you have a great week ahead. Thanks for reading today’s letter and I hope you all are doing well. I hope your in good health and looking forward to the summer ahead. Talk to you all soon,
-M
