About this build

What a Kimbo 6 truck camper build looks like.

A Kimbo 6 build is a hand-riveted hard-side slide-in truck camper for midsize trucks (Toyota Tacoma, Ford Ranger, Chevy Colorado, Jeep Gladiator, Nissan Frontier) and short-bed half-tons. At 830 lb dry the K6 is the lightest hard-side slide-in currently in production — light enough that most midsize trucks carry it comfortably within payload after water, propane, and gear are added. R5 insulation, modular interior, optional Dickinson propane heater for four-season camping.

The configurator above is the entry point into the build process. Submitting costs nothing and commits nothing — it puts your build details in front of our team and starts a conversation. From there: fit review on your specific truck, module discussion, current pricing, and a production-slot estimate. Production deposit comes only after you've confirmed the build and we've reserved your slot.

What's inside

Inside a Kimbo slide-in camper.

What the interior of a Kimbo 6 build actually looks like — the four zones every slide-in camper has, configured the way Kimbo configures them.

Zone 1

Galley

Compact galley with a 2-burner stove, stainless sink, and a 12V compressor refrigerator. Counter run sized for one cook, one pour-over, one pan at a time — the rhythm of a midsize-truck owner's actual camp morning.

Zone 2

Dinette

Convertible dinette with a removable table — bench-seats for two adults comfortably, converts to a second sleeping surface when needed. Storage under both bench seats. Window-side seating on both sides keeps both diners looking out.

Zone 3

Sleeping cabover

Full-size cabover platform sits above the truck cab. High-density foam mattress, reading light, double-pane Arctic Tern window overhead for ventilation and morning light. Accessible by step from the dinette zone.

Zone 4

Bath module

Optional bath module — cassette toilet, fold-out shower curtain, sealed floor pan. The bath spec is configurable in the K6 build above; many K6 owners skip the bath module to save weight and use a portable solution for shorter trips, while others want the always-available built-in for longer trips.

Frequently asked

The build process, answered.

How much does a Kimbo truck camper build cost?

The Kimbo 6 starts at $27,990 for the base build. Typical configurations with common modules (Dickinson Marine propane heater, expanded solar and lithium, awning, recovery mounts, interior bath) land between $30,000 and $35,000. Budget for an additional $2,000–$5,000 in truck-side upgrades (airbags, payload-rated tires) if you're running near your truck's payload limit. The Kimbo 8 — the platform for full-size trucks — starts at $42,990. See the full lineup on /campers for the price-and-fit cross-shop.

How long does a Kimbo build take?

From production-deposit reservation to delivery, a Kimbo 6 build is typically 6–8 weeks. Submitting the configurator above puts no deposit down — a Kimbo team member reaches out within a few business days to walk through fit, modules, and a real production-slot estimate. Once you confirm the build and place the production deposit, the 6–8 week production window begins. Build slots fill seasonally; the earlier in the year you submit, the more flexibility on slot date.

Do I need to pay a deposit to start a build?

No deposit is required to submit the configurator above. A Kimbo team member reaches out within a few business days to walk through fit, modules, build options, and timing. The production deposit (40% of the final build price) is collected only when you've confirmed the build and we've reserved a production slot for you. Until then, the configurator submission is a no-commitment conversation starter.

What happens after I submit my build through the configurator?

A Kimbo team member reviews your build submission within a few business days and reaches out to walk through fit details on your specific truck, the modules you spec'd, current pricing, and an estimated production-slot date. From there: production deposit (40%) reserves your build slot; a 6–8 week build window begins; final 60% balance is due 24 hours prior to pickup or delivery. You're welcome to visit the factory in Bellingham before depositing, or to meet a current owner near you via /find-a-kimbo. No cold-call sales pressure — this is a conversation among adults about what build is right for you.

Can I see a Kimbo in person before I commit to a build?

Yes — and we recommend it. Three options: visit the factory in Bellingham, Washington (we welcome visitors by appointment), meet a current Kimbo owner near you (the owner map at /find-a-kimbo shows 600+ Kimbos on the road and most owners are happy to show their build to a serious prospect), or catch us at a regional event (Overland Expo, Camper Van Worldwide gatherings, and the press list at /press tracks where we're showing each year). The configurator above can be submitted before, during, or after an in-person visit — none of the three commits you to anything beyond a conversation.
