Which trucks are ideal platforms for the Kimbo 8?

Strong full-size platforms include: Ford F-250/F-350, Ram 2500/3500, Chevy Silverado 2500/3500, GMC Sierra 2500/3500, Toyota Tundra, and well-equipped F-150 / Silverado 1500 / Ram 1500 with adequate payload. Proper fit depends on payload rating (critical), bed length (8' preferred, 6.5' supported), cab height clearance, and overall truck configuration. We're happy to review your door-jamb payload sticker before you move forward.

I'm buying a truck for my Kimbo 8 — what should I look for?

Start with payload capacity first — not model year, trim, or horsepower. The number on the driver-side door-jamb sticker must safely support camper + water + gear + passengers, with comfortable margin. Bed length: 8-foot bed preferred; 6.5' supported. Cab height: newer redesigns may need extra clearance. Trim level: higher trims often reduce payload (sunroofs, larger wheels). Mid-level trims can offer better payload flexibility. New vs Used: a well-maintained used truck with strong payload is often the smart move.

Should I talk to Kimbo before buying my truck?

Yes. We can review payload sticker numbers, bed dimensions, suspension setup, and fitment considerations. Choosing the right truck upfront prevents expensive trade-ins later.

How much does the Kimbo 8 weigh?

Base dry weight starts at approximately 980 lbs. Equipped models typically range 980–1,660 lbs depending on selected modules and options. *Dry weight does not include jack legs, water, propane, or gear.

What if I'm close to my payload rating?

We do not recommend exceeding manufacturer payload ratings. Suspension upgrades improve ride quality but do not increase legal payload capacity. We strongly recommend reviewing your truck's door-jamb payload sticker before reserving.

What truck upgrades do you recommend?

For best performance: - Rear airbag suspension - E-rated tires These upgrades improve leveling, crosswind stability, and ride comfort.

Can I use the Kimbo off the truck?

Yes. For stability: - Lower close to the ground - Use support stands - For long-term use, place on a stable platform (4–6" elevation recommended)

How many people can sleep inside?

The Kimbo 8 features a queen cabover bed and comfortably accommodates 2 adults as the standard. With optional bed modules, additional sleeping capacity can be configured for families.

How does the Kimbo 8 perform in winter?

With R10 insulation, double-pane Arctic Tern windows, and optional Dickinson propane or diesel heaters, the Kimbo 8 is designed for real four-season travel. Below -10°F (-23°C) propane efficiency can decline; a diesel heater is typically more consistent for extended cold-climate use. Cold-weather performance depends heavily on wind exposure, ventilation, moisture control, and overall setup. Owners travel comfortably in Alaska and Northern Canada with thoughtful preparation.

What about condensation?

Like all campers, moisture can occur. Proper ventilation and consistent heat are essential. The door is designed to channel condensation safely outside. In extreme conditions, freezing may occur.

Can I make custom modifications?

We offer a curated set of factory modules and options. We avoid one-off structural custom builds to maintain quality, consistency, and serviceability. Minor modifications may be reviewed case by case.

Can I add modules after purchase?

Yes, in many cases. Some modules require partial disassembly for proper installation, which may increase labor costs. We recommend selecting major systems during your original build when possible. Contact us to confirm compatibility before ordering add-ons.

Can I add solar panels?

Yes. Solar can be added at build or after purchase. Installation method and wiring configuration should be discussed to preserve sealing integrity.

Can I mount exterior accessories (awnings, racks, etc.)?

Yes. Exterior accessory mounting should be reviewed before installation. Improper drilling into the aluminum shell can compromise sealing and may affect warranty coverage.

Will modifications void my warranty?

The aluminum shell carries a 2-year limited structural warranty. Customer-installed systems and modifications are not covered. Structural alterations that compromise the shell may void applicable coverage. Discuss significant changes before proceeding.

Can I see a Kimbo in person?

What is the current build time?

Build time runs 3–6 months for the Early Production Series.

What is the Kimbo buying process?

1. Explore & Configure — review configuration info to understand base pricing and options on the build page. 2. Build & Reserve — send your configuration to our team. No deposit needed — a Kimbo team member reaches out to walk through fit, modules, and timing with you. 3. Receive Your Detailed Quote — fully itemized build sheet with final specs and pricing. 4. Purchase Agreement & Production Deposit — when you're ready to move forward, sign the agreement and submit a 40% production deposit. Secures your place in the build queue. 5. Final Payment — remaining 60% due 24 hours prior to pickup or delivery.

Can my Kimbo be delivered?

Yes. Delivery is available throughout the United States for an additional fee. Our professional shipper provides a full walkthrough and helps mount your camper on arrival. Exact delivery costs are included in your final personalized build quote. Factory pickup at our Bellingham, WA facility is also available — many customers prefer this for in-person installation and orientation. Alaska and international destinations are handled case by case.

Do I pay sales tax if I'm from a no-sales-tax state?

If you pick up your camper in Washington State, we are required to collect Washington sales tax at the time of purchase. If your camper is delivered directly to your out-of-state location, the sale may qualify as tax-exempt under Washington export rules. Tax treatment depends on delivery method and destination — please confirm your specific situation with our team prior to final payment.

I'm Canadian — can I buy a Kimbo?

Yes. If your camper is delivered to Canada, you are responsible for GST and PST (or HST), any applicable provincial duties or fees, customs clearance and brokerage, and transport arrangements. Truck campers are not currently subject to special U.S.–Canada tariffs (as of early 2026), but regulations may change. We do not act as the exporter of record. We can provide required documentation and recommend carriers previous customers have used.

Does a Kimbo require registration?

In most U.S. states and Canadian provinces, slide-in truck campers do not require separate registration and are treated as cargo when mounted to the truck. Registration, inspection, titling, and compliance vary by jurisdiction. Buyers are responsible for confirming local requirements.

How is a Kimbo insured?

Insurance treatment varies by provider and jurisdiction. Truck campers are commonly insured as: - An endorsement added to your truck policy - A rider under comprehensive coverage - A separate recreational vehicle policy Contact your insurance provider prior to delivery to confirm coverage details.

Do you offer financing?

Yes, via our partner LightStream. Good-credit customers can get funds up to $100,000 as soon as the same day if all conditions are met. Apply online — no fees, no prepayment penalties, no home-equity requirement. All loans subject to credit approval by LightStream (Truist Bank).

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept: - Bank wire or ACH transfer (preferred for production deposits and final payment) - Credit card on request (processing fees apply) Payment instructions are provided with your purchase agreement after your build conversation.

When is final payment due?

Once your configuration is finalized and the purchase agreement is signed, a 40% production deposit secures your place in the build queue. The remaining 60% balance is due 24 hours prior to pickup or delivery.

What is the Kimbo 8 made from?

The Kimbo 8 features a riveted marine-grade aluminum shell engineered for long-term durability and repairability. The aluminum functions as both exterior skin and structural frame — lightweight, dent-resistant, and corrosion-resistant.

Can the aluminum be repaired if damaged?

Yes. One advantage of aluminum construction is that panels can be repaired or replaced if damaged. Because the shell is not wood-framed, structural repairs are more straightforward than in many traditional RVs.

Are replacement parts available?

Yes. Many components (windows, fans, heaters, hardware) are sourced from established manufacturers and can be replaced directly through them. For structural parts or shell-related components, contact us directly.

Can I drill into the shell to add accessories?

We strongly recommend consulting us before drilling into the aluminum shell. Improper penetrations can compromise sealing and structural integrity and may affect warranty coverage.

How long is the camper expected to last?

With proper maintenance, the aluminum shell is designed for decades of use. Unlike traditional wood-framed RV construction, the Kimbo shell does not rely on internal wood framing that can rot or delaminate over time.

What makes a Kimbo 8

Hand-built strength, full-size capability, four-season comfort.

The Kimbo 8 is engineered for full-size trucks (Toyota Tundra, Ford F-150, Chevy Silverado, GMC Sierra, Ram 1500-3500) with 6.5- to 8-foot beds. Wet bath, queen cabover bed, and R10 insulation come standard; a chimney pass-through is also pre-installed for two factory-installed heater upgrade options (Dickinson Marine Propane or Diesel — buyer's choice at build time).

Full-size truck platform

A hard-side truck bed camper sized for the trucks most full-time travelers drive.

Designed for Tundra (5.5-foot or 8-foot bed), F-150 (5.5- to 8-foot), Silverado 1500-3500, Sierra 1500-3500, and Ram 1500-3500 in 6.4- to 8-foot bed lengths. Tailgate closes on 6.5-foot beds and longer; longer beds give more cabover and cargo overhang. See the full truck-fit guide below.

Wet bath living

A truck camper with a real bathroom — not a compromise.

Dedicated wet bath module with a draining shower module, cassette toilet, and a portable Fanntik shower system — all standard on the Kimbo 8. The wet bath is a fully enclosed integrated zone within the camper footprint (not retrofit cabinetry), closer in feel to a Class B van bathroom than to a soft-side pop-up's porta-potty footprint.

R10 four-season insulation

Two times the insulation of the Kimbo 6, for sub-freezing camping.

R10 rigid foam panels in the walls and ceiling — twice the insulation R-value of the K6's R5. Combined with double-pane Arctic Tern windows and a chimney pass-through pre-installed for an optional Dickinson heater (propane or diesel — buyer's choice), the Kimbo 8 is engineered for real four-season travel. Below -10°F (-23°C) propane efficiency can decline; diesel is typically more consistent for extended cold-climate use. Built for Pacific Northwest winters and Colorado high-country snowstorms, not just shoulder-season camping.

Hand-riveted construction

Frameless 5052 marine-grade aluminum monocoque, built to outlast the truck.

Hand-riveted at 1.5-inch spacing through 0.1-inch 5052 aluminum panels — the same marine alloy used in commercial fishing boat hulls. No internal wood frame to rot, no fiberglass to delaminate, no canvas to replace. The K8 shell is repairable indefinitely with standard marine-alloy panel work, and the design philosophy assumes the camper outlives the truck under it.

Why the Kimbo 8 over the Kimbo 6.

Both Kimbos share the same hand-riveted 5052 monocoque construction and four-season philosophy. The Kimbo 8 adds full-size truck compatibility, a standard dedicated wet bath, a queen-size loft bed, R10 (vs R5) insulation, and a diesel-heater option (in addition to the propane option both Kimbos support). The K8 is the right call for full-time travel and full-size trucks; the K6 is the right call for midsize trucks and weekend / extended-trip use.
