Base dry weight: 830 lbs (camper only, without jack legs, water, propane, gear, or optional upgrades). Equipped builds typically range 830–1,200 lbs depending on selected modules and options. Add roughly 100 lbs for the removable jack legs. Always verify your truck's payload rating before installation — modern midsize trucks often have lower payload ratings than owners expect once passengers and gear are factored in.

What if I'm close to my payload rating?

We do not recommend exceeding manufacturer payload ratings. Suspension upgrades improve ride quality but do not increase legal payload capacity.

What truck upgrades do you recommend?

For best performance: - Rear airbag suspension - E-rated tires These upgrades improve leveling, crosswind stability, and ride comfort.

Will the Kimbo 6 fit my truck?

Most likely, yes. The Kimbo 6 fits most midsize trucks and many full-size trucks with proper setup. - Beds under 6 ft → tailgate stays down - Beds 6 ft or longer → tailgate can close If your truck is modified or a newer generation, a quick fit review is recommended.

Which trucks are ideal platforms for the Kimbo 6?

Strong platforms include: Toyota Tacoma (2nd & 3rd Gen, 2005–2023), Toyota Tundra (all gens), Ford F-150, Ford Ranger, Chevy Colorado / GMC Canyon, Ram 1500+, Nissan Frontier. Which trucks require consultation?

Does the Kimbo 6 work on full-size trucks?

Yes, but a raised platform is usually required, jack extensions are common, and the camper won't fill the full bed width. This is normal when installed properly.

I'm buying a truck for my Kimbo 6 — what should I look for?

Start with payload capacity first — not model year, trim, or horsepower. The number on the driver-side door-jamb sticker must safely support camper + water + gear + passengers, with comfortable margin. Bed length: 6-foot bed preferred. Shorter beds require tailgate down. Cab height: newer redesigns may need extra clearance. Midsize (Tacoma, Ranger, Colorado): lighter footprint, easier maneuverability. Full-size: more payload headroom, often more stable, may need a platform or jack extensions. Trim level: higher trims often reduce payload (sunroofs, larger wheels). How many people can sleep inside?

The Kimbo 6 comfortably accommodates 2 adults as the standard. With the extra bed module it sleeps 3 adults or 2 adults + 2 children (or pets). A full sleep layout can fit 4 adults with minimal modules installed.

How does the Kimbo perform in winter?

With standard R5 insulation and the optional propane heater, the Kimbo 6 performs well to ~0°F (-18°C). Below -10°F (-23°C) propane efficiency can decline. For occasional extreme cold some customers add a generator and electric space heater. For extended cold-climate use a diesel heater is typically more consistent. Cold-weather performance depends heavily on wind exposure, ventilation, moisture control, and overall setup. Owners travel comfortably in Alaska and Northern Canada with thoughtful preparation.

What about condensation?

Like all small campers, moisture can occur. Proper ventilation and consistent heat are essential. The door is designed to channel condensation safely outside. In extreme conditions, freezing may occur.

What comes standard on the Kimbo 6?

Every Kimbo 6 ships as a complete base camper. You add modules to outfit it for the trips you actually take. Can I add modules after purchase?

Yes, in many cases. Some modules require partial disassembly for proper installation, which may increase labor costs. We recommend selecting major systems during your original build when possible. Contact us to confirm compatibility before ordering add-ons.

Can I move the battery location?

We do not relocate battery systems after delivery. Any structural or electrical modifications a customer makes are owner responsibility and may affect warranty coverage.

Can I install my own fridge?

Yes. You can connect a 12V chest fridge/freezer to the onboard battery, though the standard single battery may not support extended fridge operation. Our factory fridge module includes an expanded battery system sized appropriately.

Can you move windows, ladder, or roof fan?

Window and roof fan placements are fixed. The ladder is standard on all models and is not currently a factory-delete option. Shell penetrations (fan, chimney, AC) are precision-engineered — relocating or modifying them is not recommended.

Can I add solar panels?

Yes. Solar can be added at build or after purchase. Installation method and wiring configuration should be discussed to preserve sealing integrity.

Can I mount exterior accessories (awnings, racks, etc.)?

Yes. Exterior accessory mounting should be reviewed before installation. Improper drilling into the aluminum shell can compromise sealing and may affect warranty coverage.

Will modifications void my warranty?

The aluminum shell carries a 2-year limited structural warranty. Customer-installed systems and modifications are not covered. Structural alterations that compromise the shell may void applicable coverage. Discuss significant changes before proceeding.

Can my Kimbo be delivered?

Yes. Delivery is available throughout the United States for an additional fee. Our professional shipper provides a full walkthrough and helps mount your camper on arrival. Exact delivery costs are included in your final personalized build quote. Factory pickup at our Bellingham, WA facility is also available — many customers prefer this for in-person installation and orientation. Alaska and international destinations are handled case by case.

Do I pay sales tax if I'm from a no-sales-tax state?

If you pick up your camper in Washington State, we are required to collect Washington sales tax at the time of purchase. If your camper is delivered directly to your out-of-state location, the sale may qualify as tax-exempt under Washington export rules. Tax treatment depends on delivery method and destination — please confirm your specific situation with our team prior to final payment.

I'm Canadian — can I buy a Kimbo?

Yes. If your camper is delivered to Canada, you are responsible for GST and PST (or HST), any applicable provincial duties or fees, customs clearance and brokerage, and transport arrangements. Truck campers are not currently subject to special U.S.–Canada tariffs (as of early 2026), but regulations may change. We do not act as the exporter of record. In most U.S. states and Canadian provinces, slide-in truck campers do not require separate registration and are treated as cargo when mounted to the truck. How is a Kimbo insured?

Insurance treatment varies by provider and jurisdiction. Do you offer financing?

Yes, via our partner LightStream. Good-credit customers can get funds up to $100,000 as soon as the same day if all conditions are met. Apply online — no fees, no prepayment penalties, no home-equity requirement. All loans subject to credit approval by LightStream (Truist Bank).

What payment methods do you accept?

We accept: - Bank wire or ACH transfer (preferred for production deposits and final payment) - Credit card on request (processing fees apply) Payment instructions are provided with your purchase agreement after your build conversation.

When is final payment due?

Once your configuration is finalized and the purchase agreement is signed, a 40% production deposit secures your place in the build queue. The remaining 60% balance is due 24 hours prior to pickup or delivery. Final payment must clear before the camper is released or shipped.

Can I finance just the camper, not the truck?

Yes. LightStream offers low-interest financing for the camper alone. Apply online; funds available as soon as the same day for qualified borrowers.

What aluminum is the Kimbo made from?

The Kimbo shell is built from 0.1" thick marine-grade 5052 aluminum. The aluminum functions as both exterior skin and structural frame, creating a monocoque shell that is lightweight, dent-resistant, corrosion-resistant, and strong enough to stand on (avoid the rear seam). This material choice is a key reason Kimbos are designed for long-term durability and repairability.

How wide is the door?

The entry door opening is approximately 22 inches wide.

What are the exterior dimensions of the Kimbo 6?

How do I replace my front window?

The Kimbo 6 uses a Tern Overland EV-450X1100 Black window (24–34mm wall thickness). For replacement glass, struts, or shades, contact Tern Overland customer service directly. We're happy to help identify parts.

Are replacement parts available?

Yes. Many components (windows, fans, heaters, hardware) are sourced from established manufacturers and can be replaced directly through them. For structural parts or shell-related components, contact us directly.

Can I drill into the shell to add accessories?

We strongly recommend consulting us before drilling into the aluminum shell. Improper penetrations can compromise sealing and structural integrity and may affect warranty coverage. Factory-installed penetrations are precision-engineered to maintain proper sealing.

How long is the camper expected to last?

With proper maintenance, the aluminum shell is designed for decades of use. Unlike traditional wood-framed RV construction, the Kimbo shell does not rely on internal wood framing that can rot or delaminate over time.
